Off Reserve Detective

Is it probable that I will become a detective or SWAT w/ military experience and college credits?
I am a United States Marine Corps Reservist, I get off active duty and will check in to my reserve unit this summer. I will be 21 years old with 24 college credits and i’ve earned 21 transferrable college credits while in the marine corps. I want to know how quickly can i become a detective or swat member with 45 college credits(just different courses not involved with criminal justice), military experience, and a clean background. I plan to work for the Dallas, TX police department. So is it possible to become detective without a degree and how long would it take. Also can police officers bring their own gear(face mask, ballistic shields, night vision monoculars) while patrolling?
Your getting ahead of your self hard corp. You need to just focus on being hired to start. After that you are gonna have to prove your self as a uniform officer. Becoming a well rounded police officer doesn’t happen over night and you are going to be competing with officers with more time and experience then you for specialty slots like swat and cib (detective). Your background is important and will lay the ground work for being a good officer but don’t forget there are a ton of guys and girls with your same background gunning for those jobs. Never rely on your resume to get you where you wanna go. In my opinion you need at least 5 years as a patrol officer before you have enough experience to transfer to a specialty position. As for your own gear most departments allow to carry some personal gear but they will only allow it if you have been trained BY THEM to carry it. Otherwise you open yourself and the Dept. up to mucho civil liability. Remember you gotta walk before you run just work on the basics for now and once you get hired and get your street creds as a uniform rookie then and only then can you think about movement within the Department. Good Luck Devil. Semper Fi.
