How the Industry Trends Affect Movie Reviews

The films that are being released this year are a sign of the upcoming trends in Hollywood, especially as those trends relate to what what movie reviews will tell us.

Major trends include sequals, flicks that keep that great flick’s story going. So you can prepare for even more follow ups in the remainder of 2009. Films released in recent years will not be the only ones that will become sequals. This includes films that originally were released before or in the 1990s.

You may also want to look out for films called non-sequels, which appear close to a real follow up ( e.g. The film Wolverine, earlier declared a non-sequel, now bears the title X-Men Origins : Wolverine. )

2009 will be one more good year for bringing well-liked cartoons, comics, and literary works to life. With the success of films like three hundred and SinCity, Hollywood isn’t going to let the chance to make one or two more graphic-novel based films get away.

Next …comics and graphic novels are hot this year. Note the guards film ; long touted as the greatest graphic novel in history. Comic-based films are in. And keep an eye out for the return of some favorite cartoons, including the latterly released G.I. Joe.

Graphic Novels and Multimodal Literacy $138.61 Graphic novels have attracted much media attention in recent years. Blockbuster movies based on graphic novels and the popularity of manga have increased their visibility. Bookstore sales and library circulations of graphic novels have risen markedly. Having lost the stigma of the lowly comic book, graphic novels are firmly entrenched in pop culture. This book examines high school students responses to an art graphic novel and how those responses change after students learn conventions employed in the comic format. Readers responses were analyzed based on Rosenblatts theory transactional analysis, Isers theory of gap filling, and Cullers theory of conventions, plus Kresss concept of multimodal literacy framed in semiotic theory.
