Marvel Defenders Comic

X-Men Comic book question
I’ll be the first to admit this. I don’t know crap about Marvel and DC Comics but I’m getting ready to sell a ton of comic books on Ebay to pay some bills. I have some Xmen, X Factor, Generation X, Alpha Fight, The New Defenders, Excalibur, Dark Hawk, and X Force comic books and I was planning on selling all the Xmen comics in one huge lot. Including everything Xmen related. Now do those other titles go with Xmen or no? I’ve been going through them and trying to figure it out but I can’t. Help please!!!!
Read them, hmmm, nice suggestion but I think I’d rather spend time with my 4 month old daughter for whom I’m selling the comic books for so I can pay for her hospital bill. And FYI, I got the comics in my divorce. I’ll never read them.
Basically, of the titles you have listed, everything is an X-book (related to the X-Men in one way or another) except the Dark Hawk series, but if there are any New Mutants issues, that is also an “X-title” and some of the later issues are more valuable than the earlier one. Since you have issues of The New Defenders as well as issues of Generation X, the books must run from as early as 1985 or ’86 to at least 1993. The New Defenders series had two of the original X-Men in its cast towards the end (from around #125 to the last issue) and it was cancelled in order to launch the X-Factor series, which initially featured the original X-Men. Confusing? You bet it is. The point, however, is that you need to get some idea of the potential values of some of the books, so that you don’t ask a minimum bid “buy it now” price that is too low and cheat yourself. You may not want to read the books (considering the circumstances, I certainly can’t blame you for that), but you should take a little time and check the issue numbers of each series against the prices at the Comics Price Guide, so you don’t miss the significance of some key books that feature things like the first appearance of Gambit, the first appearance of Cable, or the Death of Jean Grey, etc. that wouldn’t mean anything to a non-comics fan but do mean a lot to comic book collectors. You might also want to consider doing some “cherry picking” and offer some of the potentially more valueable books separately, instead of including them with a great number of others. Once you have an idea of what you have, you’ll have a better idea of what you might want to do. I’ve provided a link for, so you can do your own research. You won’t have to understand the relationship of one series to another if you use the guide, but you will have to take a bit of time and make a list of titles and the issue numbers of each title (issue numbers will always be on the front page and with some issue you might want to make sure you have a first printing, which information would be listed in the indicia of each issue in the small print at the bottom of the first right handed page passed the cover; first printings won’t be listed but subsequent printings will be). Once you have the lists check them against the information in the guide. I know you won’t want to go to that much trouble, but it should pay off in the long run; you also owe it to your daughter to get as much for the comics as you can reasonably expect. I’ve had to sell off my comics collections a few times but I always had the advantage of knowing what I had, which issues were desirable to collectors and why and the last time I sold off my comics I had the good fortune to hit one of the few good times to sell books. The market isn’t in the best shape right now, but I’ll wager you have at least a handful of books that you could expect to sell for $10 to $40 apiece, depending on if your ex knew what he was doing or not, or was just buying comics to read them.
The only other thing I can add is good luck and trust your judgement, but don’t let yourself be rushed into anything you don’t feel comfortable with. It’s good that you are going the Ebay route rather than dealing with a comics shop.
