Superhero Strength Levels Part One?
Where would you list the following Superheroes’s strength levels?
AQUAMAN, LUKE CAGE, SPIDERMAN, NAMOR, HAWKMAN,
I’m not talking about overall power, I’m only refering to STRENGTH. I’m familiar with the Marvel Universe Strength Class, which makes sense until you get into Class 100. Then it gets ridiculous.
Here, I would think that Namor is the stronger of this bunch. At last recall, I remember him at about 85 tons, about equal with the THING.
Where would you rank Aquaman? DC has been writing him a bit stronger than before, where he seemed to be not much stronger than a man. I would place him just below Namor. He should be around 70 if Namor is 85.
What’s your take on this list?
You’re right, the Marvel scale gets more than a little bit crazy the higher it gets, and DC does tend to fluctuate the strength of their heroes based on who the writer is.
1) Namor: Now, he’s a guy who’s shifted a bit over the years, but he does seem to be a legitimate powerhouse. Growing up, meaning back when I read Defenders, he always seemed like a cut or two just below The Hulk, which is still pretty powerful. I mean, whenever they quarreled (which in the Defenders, was quite often) they both got the best of each other. And hey, did you read the Namor issue of “The List” lately? He does some pretty big stuff in there with Norman Osborn on his tail.
2) Spiderman: After Namor, it gets much closer between the rest of them. I picked Spiderman because he can lift around 10 tons (or at least, he can according to the Marvel power scale), and because of some of the things he’s able to do under duress. Whenever big things go down in the Marvel universe, Spiderman (because he’s one of the most popular heroes) almost always transforms into a complete bad-ass. The jokes stop and the real power comes out. The bigger the situation, the stronger Spiderman gets.
3) Hawkman: Hawkman is another guy who’s strength levels have changed quite a bit, but if we’re going Silver Age JLA here, he was pretty freaking strong. Even in JSA today, he’s portrayed as one of the team’s true heavy hitters. I mean, when the JSA fought Gog in “Thy Kingdom Come”, he was one of the few to actually hurt him.
4) Aquaman: I don’t know that much about Aquaman, but I’m assuming that we’re talking about Arthur Curry here. More than anyone else, his strength depends on who’s writing him. I mean, if we’re talking Grant Morrison Aquaman, he might be number one on this list. However, in recent times he’s fallen off considerably.
5) Luke Cage: I think that if we were measuring endurance, then Luke Cage would be much higher on this list. I know that he’s strong, and he’s an interesting character in New Avengers, but I’m picking the other guys first.
