Iron Man Bust
How would I make a useful iron man suit?
I’ve always been a big fan of Iron Man, and I just saw the movie, and was inspired. I have read other things like this, but they are either much too complex/expensive, or too crude. What I really want is something that looks extremely cool and could be used in an airsoft gun fight or a paintball battle. I think it would be hilarious if we were in the middle of an airsoft fight and busted out with an invincible battle suit (to teh small plasic pellets at least).
I dont think it would be that hard to make, and maybe a light metal like tin could be used.
Can someone please tell me how i would make this and the best tips on making it look super cool!?

You need to learn Metal Reposse’ or basically learn How to make armor for a knight but you could do it with paper mache but you must have the following to do this:
a) Lots and Lot of newpaper strips along with paper mache paste ( recipe for it follows)
b) Peroleum jelly
c) a friend to stand by to assit you
e) a quiet place to do this
1. coat your chest and back with (b) than have your friend dip the newspaper strips in the paper mache paste and apply it on your chest and back do about 4 layers and allow it to set up in about 4 to 6 hours ( or use masking tape and your done in about 1 to 2 hours – need about three to five rolls of tape to do this).
VERY IMPORTANT: HAVE YOUR FRIEND KEEP A EYE ON YOU IN CASE – THERE IS ANY DISCOMFORT OR PROBLEMS – HE WILL NEED TO CUT OR TEAR THE MOLD OFF OF YOU TO GET YOU OUT OF IT AND WIPE THE JELLY OFF OKAY
when it setup, have your friend carefully cut the paper mache mold off you with a pair of sisscors in very slow and even strokes. Cutting into two half than rejoin the pieces together and reapply about five layer of paper mache and allow it to setup overnight
Do the same thing again for the arms and legs on the next day. I wear some old underwear or sherts for doing the mid section of your body apply about five layer Reapply after cutting it off and assemblying it ( Make some cut in the joints to allow for moment
Repeat again for the face mask use a old helmet for the back of the head ( if you got a dummy face mold even better)
than apply decorative pieces and paint it in two coats of white paint allow the first coat to dry than sand it with coarse sand paper wipe with cloth and apply the second coat of white paint allow to dry overnight. Paint with decorative paints to make it look like Marvel’s Ironman
there you go your own Ironman suit of armor

Paste
1 cup cold water
1 cup flour
2 1/2 cups boiling water
1 T. powdered alum
3/4 tsp. oil of wintergreen
Mix the cold water and flour together, stirring until smooth.
Add the boiling water and mix well. Pour the mixture into the top of a double boiler.
Cook over low heat until smooth. Add the alum and stir.
Remove from heat. When the mixture is cool, add the oil of wintergreen.

To make the paste:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups cold water
2 cups boiling water
3 tbsp. sugar
Mix together flour and cold water in a bowl. Add this mixture to the boiling water and allow it to return to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar. As the mixture cools it will thicken as it does.
You can also just make a quicky paste by putting flour in a bowl and adding water until you have kind of a soupy paste.
If you’re planning to make something you want to last for years and years, be aware that flour paste can get moldy, especially in humid environments. You might want to try using powdered wall paper non-pourous adhesive (Note: please read waring on carton) mixed with water. It comes in milk carton type containers and you can find it anywhere wallpaper is sold.
Be sure to cover your work area with lots of newspaper or wax paper – papier mache can get very messy!
To make your shape:
Tear (don’t cut) narrow strips of newspaper or newsprint. Narrower strips work best when using a rounded mold… for flat or rectangular surfaces, larger strips are ok. Dip the strips into the paste, coating completely. As you lift the strip out, run it between your thumb and forefinger to squeeze out excess paste. Then drape the strip across your mold. Overlap strips slightly as you go – the torn edges will blend together and your final product will have a smoother finish. You may need more than one layer of paper. It’s best to allow each layer to dry before putting another on – this means some projects could take several days!
