Fairy Tales Beyond
Why can’t people see the truth?

Religion.
The reason it gives you a ‘sublime and lasting peace’ is because it tells you that there is a lovely idealised world up there for us to pass onto when we die.
The idea of not knowing what lies beyond this life TERRIFIES humans. Religion quells this terror through make believe stories. Much like fairy tales give children a fantasy world to believe in.
Why not break free and seek to find the TRUE MEANING OF LIFE?
You certainly won’t find it within an institution designed to lull the human race into a false sense of security.
Pastor M.. :
So you think it is better to believe in something that you have no proof of just so you can find solace and not have to fear.
A cowards way out surely?

Life has no meaning…. and there is no truth either….. so the very notion of a “true meaning of life” is utterly hilarious and makes its claimant look absurd.

That aside…. I find it ironic that you would go on about terror in the face of the Unknown as even most athiests are afraid to stare straight into the Nihil.
Theists deny it completely, so stupid are they….. but how are athiests much better when they turn their backs on it and focus all their energies on the distractions of the trivial and transient?

You want to accuse people of being too afraid to face reality?
Then accept the reality that existence itself is without worth nor meaning…. that nothing any of us do counts for anything, that our whole lives are essentially a waste… and that all the labours of humanity are eventually going to come to naught when we all get wiped out by neutral causality.
Accept and be content that existence itself just -happens- with no beginning, no end, no purpose, no consequence…. and at best we are only an absolutely tiny part of it, even our supposed “free will” simply another part of the inevitable flow of existence…. and that it in turn is only a smattering of dust compared to the endless reaches of nothingness around…..

… and THEN you are in a better position to accuse the religious nuts of escapism.

Folk and Fairy Tales: A Handbook

Folk and Fairy Tales: A Handbook

$102.22

Just about everyone is familiar with folk and fairy tales. Children learn about them from parents, teachers, and other adults, while researchers study these tales at colleges and universities. At the same time, folk and fairy tales are inseparable from everyday life and popular culture. Movies, music, art, and literature offer imaginative retellings and interpretations of fairy and folk tales. But despite the pervasiveness of this folklore type, most people have only a vague understanding of these tales. This reference is a convenient introduction to folk and fairy tales for students and general readers. Written by a leading authority, this handbook offers a broad examination of folk and fairy tales as a folklore type. It looks at tales from around the world and from diverse cultures. The volume defines and classifies folk and fairy tales and analyzes a number of examples. It studies the varied manifestations of fairy and folk tales in literature and culture and reviews critical and scholarly approaches to this folklore genre. The volume also includes a glossary and extensive list of works for further reading. Author: Ashliman, D. L. The Brothers Grimm were Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, German professors who were best known for publishing collections of folk tales and fairy tales, and for their work in linguistics, relating to how the sounds in words shift over time (Grimms Law). They began collecting folk tales around 1807. They produced a manuscript collection of several dozen tales, which they had recorded by inviting storytellers to their home and transcribing what they heard. In 1812, they published a collection of 86 German fairy tales in a volume titled Kinderund Hausmarchen (Childrens and Household Tales). They published a second volume of 70 stories in 1814, which together make up the first edition of the collection, containing 156 stories. In 1830, they formed a household in Gottingen where they were to become professors. Celtic Fairy Tales

Celtic folklore overflows with vivid stories that fire the imagination. At the end of his highly successful English Fairy Tales, Joseph Jacobs compiled Celtic Fairy Tales, a book of 26 stories from around Wales and Ireland. While some of the themes found in Celtic folklore are similar to those of contemporary fairy tales, other stories in this collection are infused with a flavour that is uniquely Celtic. In Jacobs own words, The Celts went forth to battle, but they always fell. Yet the captive Celt has enslaved his captor in the realm of imagination. Celtic Fairy Tales tells of horned women, breweries of eggshells, sprightly tailors, gold and silver trees, King o Tooles goose, sea maidens, and more. Of particular interest is the 13th century legend of Beth Gellert, wherein the dog of Llewelyn (I) the Great, Prince of Wales, protected the princes infant son from a wolf attack. A memorial to the dog still stands today in the village of Beddgelert, near Snowdon, Wales. In an attempt to give a library of the Celts wealthy imagination to his readers, Jacobs has attempted to begin the readers captivity with the earliest recordings of these tales. And captivate he doesCeltic Fairy Tales not only preserves a cultural history, but also is richly entertaining. We invite you to curl up with this unique sliver of Celtic folklore not seen in print for over a century; immerse yourself in the tales and fables of yesteryear. A percentage of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to the Princes Trust for education scholarships for underprivileged individuals. The fairy tale makes universal appeal because it deals with the elemental in our natures that is the same in every age and in every race. In the Canadian tales which are gathered from Indian sources, we find the same types of characters and scenes of adventure that we do in the tales of the German forests, of Scandinavia, England or France. In this volume Joseph Jacobs has proceeded on much the same lines as those which he laid down in compiling Celtic Fairy Tales. In making his selection he attempted to select the tales common both to Erin and Alba. He included, as specimen of the Irish medi eval hero tales, one of the three sorrowful tales of Erin: The Tale of the Children of Lir. For the drolls, or comic relief, of the volume, he drew upon the inexhaustible Kennedy and the great J. F. Campbell, who still stands out as the most prominent figure in the history of the Celtic Fairy Tale. Jacobs attempted to do what the brothers Grimm did for Germany, so far as that was possible. In Jacobs own words The Celtic materials are so rich that it would tax the resources of a whole clan of Grimms to exhaust the field. In this volume you will find 20 Celtic tales of Jack the Cunning Thief, Paddy oKelly and the Weasel, the Dream of Owen OMulready, The Farmer of Liddesdale, The Greek Princess and the Young Gardener, Elidore, the Ridere of Riddles and more. In Jacobs own words, The Celts went forth to battle, but they always fell. Yet the captive Celt has enslaved his captor in the realm of imagination. English Fairy Tales

English Fairy Tales

$17.67

This volume contains fortythree English folk stories and tales. But why call them FAIRY STORIES? One cannot imagine a child saying, Tell me a folktale, or Another nursery tale, please, grandma. Fairy tales are stories in which occurs something fairy, something extraordinaryfairies, giants, dwarfs, speaking animals, or the remarkable stupidity of some of the characters. Many of the tales in this volume are what folklorists call Drolls (a humorous story in which there is a jester or a wag) . They justify the title of Merrie England, a phrase which once indicated the underlying capacity for fun and humour of the English. The story of Tom Tit Tot, for example, is unequalled among all other folktales for its combined humorousness and dramatic power. So take some time out and travel back to a period before television and radio, a time when families would gather around a crackling and spitting hearth and granddad or grandma or uncle or auntie would delight and captivate the gathering with stories passed on to them from their parents and grandparents from time immemorial. A proportion of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated towards the education of the underprivileged in England. Author: Jacobs, Joseph/ Halsted, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 250 Publication Date: 2009/06/22 Language: English Dimensions: 5.00 x 8.00 x 0.57 inches
