Marvel Comic books?

I have been wanting to get into comic books for a while now, but I have no idea where to start. I’m insterested in: The Avengers, Iron Man, Fantastic Four. I’ve found the ‘Essentials’ for each on Amazon. I would also like to read about the Civil War, but I want the history first. Any ideas where I should start? Then go? After that?

I’ve heard the Essentials are in black and white, are they? I don’t think I would mind too much since I’m more insteresting in the story. What would you recommend for a new-be??

I’m not sure what else to say other, so I will leave it to you, the experts!

There are collections of the first 40 some years of a lot of the titles available in an electronic format so you can read them on your computer for sale that I would highly recommend. They are way cheaper than buying all the comics or books and what not, and they don’t take up vast amounts of shelf space either. Here’s a list of which ones are available:

I think just about all of them stop around 2005 so you would only have to buy the comics (or trade paperbacks if they are available) that have been released in the last few years.
