Star Wars Comes to Manchester
Star Wars fans unite and rejoice as a stunning new gallery arrives at Generation Pop Art Gallery at City Tower in Manchester. Packed with incredible pieces from official Star Wars artists, including the likes of Chris Wahl, an esteemed Australian artist who is also credited with work on films such as Shrek, The Lion King and Bolt, you can rest assured that your eyes are in for a feast at this fabulous free event.
Running for a month from January 20, the exhibition is a must for anybody with a passion for Star Wars, whether you’re a die hard fan or simply someone who’s enjoyed the films over the years. Even those without the burning love of the series will appreciate exquisite artwork in a variety of styles, so those coming along for the ride with a hardcore fan won’t find themselves disappointed by what’s on offer. Take in breathtaking images of scenes from the movies, from landscapes to set items, as well as a range of works depicting your favourite characters in all of their forms over the years in a variety of styles. Cartoonish drawings are set to entertain while more detailed, realistic images are waiting to take your breath away with their skill, style and attention closely paid by quality artists.
The exhibition is the first of its kind in Manchester and has already proven successful in the past. In 2009, the artwork was displayed at the San Diego Comic Convention to an estimated 100,000 fans – meaning the Manchester event is expected to be similarly popular. This is the first time the artworks have been placed on public display since the 2009 convention, so those hoping to attend should start planning their visits soon!
Of course, there’s plenty more to see and do in Manchester than head to Star Wars art exhibitions – the city is known as a vibrant and cosmopolitan centre where visitors can find just about anything they want when it comes to eating, drinking and entertainment. The live music scene is immense and there are plenty of other opportunities to take in some wonderful art that isn’t necessarily along the Star Wars theme!
