Wierd War Tales. Weird Mystery Tales or Western Tales. Do you remember reading them?

As a kid my mom and I would walk to a store called The Golden Pantry in Athens, Georgia. I loved it because we would talk and sing and it was fun because I was with my mother and for most people that’s gotta be cool. My question is does anyone remember a DC comic called Weird War Tales? How about Weird Western Tales? Did you enjoy reading them? My mom would let me buy 2 comics and she would buy her romance (Yech! Yeesh!) comics and novels and we would get Icee’s or do you folks call them Slurpees. I think Snickers were 15 cents. I loved being a kid then. It was so cool and then I had to grow and that really sucked.

oh yes, i remember those (actually, I have many issues of them). Weird War Tales ran the longest, and featured a Kamandi-related series for a while, Tales of the Great Disaster, before it became the home for G.I. Robot and the Creature Commandos. Weird Western Tales introduced El Diablo, and the long-running Jonah Hex. After Hex moved into his own book, Scalphunter took the lead spot, with Cinammon briefly as a back-up. Weird Mystery Tales is more obscure, running only 24 issues, but it had a story in one issue that scared the crap out of me, based on the old Beat the Clock game show.

At the height of DC’s “weird” mania, the cover of Adventure Comics became “Weird Adventure Comics” for a few issues, while Spectre was the cover feature.
