Dimensions of first Superman comic book?
My grandpa has found one of his old comic books.
On the comic book it was 1938. But to be completely sure
that it is real, and not a re-print, we need the full
dimensions of the true original comic book. Does any
one know what the dimensions are for the first Superman
comic book?
I think I may have an original 1939 copyrighted Superman #1 Comic Book.
It’s slightly larger than a normal comic book size, what size should it be and how can I tell if it’s not a re-print.
These sizes are based on the comic bags designed for the comics of a specific era:
Golden Age: 1936 – 1945, 7-3/4″ x 10-1/2″
Atomic Age: 1946 – 1955
Silver Age: 1956 – 1969, 7-1/4″ x 10-1/2″
Bronze Age: 1970 – 1984, 7-1/8″ x 10-1/4″
Modern Age: 1984 – Now , 6-7/8″ x 10-1/2″
I’ve never held the first issue of Superman, but usually there is information at the bottom of the first page. It should have a date, volume, & issue number. If you have a local comic book store, you can ask them.
